Tanker Task Force
Gaston County Tanker Task Force

The Gaston County Tanker Task Force(Formerly known as the Tanker Strike Team) was formed in 2009, its mission to establish greater water supplies and secondary water points for Gaston County fire districts. Provide training to all fire departments working toward lowering their NCISO rating. Establish greater compatibility between all fire departments with equipment and operations during water shuttles, and make a higher standard in fire protection in Gaston and surrounding counties.

The original Tanker Strike Team was divided into two separate groups using the I-85 corridor.  All tankers north of I-85 was on the North Team and every tanker south of I-85 was on the South Team.  In 2012 it was decided to better serve Gaston County to reorganize the Strike Team. It is now divided by Hwy. 321 and I-85.  This created four separate teams and reduced any lapse in coverage when a team is dispatched.

Beginning in the spring of 2018 the Tanker Strike Team committee met to evaluate the effectiveness of the strike team and begin to make changes to serve the citizens of Gaston County and surrounding Counties. The committee decided to change the name of the strike to become the Gaston County Task Force. The name change came with the implementation of incorporating a dedicated engine to respond with a task force team. With an addition of some tankers in the area the committee has decided to change the makeup of the individual teams and went from four teams down to three. This allows one team to respond  to an incident without leaving large gaps in coverage inside Gaston County.  The current makeup now consists of tankers throughout Gaston, Cleveland and Lincoln Counties in NC as well as York County, SC. Its purpose is to provide an adequate water supply for a major fire. When the Task Force is requested, the Incident Commander will ask for Task Force Team 1, 2 or 3 to respond.
